Pisco is the cradle of the culture of our Ica region and the owner of our Paracas National Reserve. Pisco is a place that was within the territory of the pre-Hispanic Paracas and Nazca cultures, even around 1,000 B.C. the first sedentary settlement took place due to the enormous marine riches that the ancient inhabitants collected. In that sense, its cultural and historical vestiges are extensive, such as the Tambo Colorado Inca Administrative Center.
The town of Pisco, a Quechua name meaning "bird", was founded in 1640, in the vicinity of the indigenous site of the same name. It was an ancient settlement related to the extraction of guano from the islands, highly valued as a fertilizer in pre-Hispanic Peru.
